End of Summer at the Farm

Mommy's been really busy filling back to school orders for her Etsy Shop, so June Bug and Big Brother spent the week with Nana and Granddaddy at the farm.  They are never ready to come home...even though Mommy and Daddy missed them so much!  Can you blame them?  Look at all the fun they had.....

See this egg Mommy?

Pumpkin Progress

3 weeks old!
It has rained here almost every day here in sunny Florida.  Ha!  But, I'm not complaining...we need the rain.  It has been so hot!  110 degree heat index?  No thanks.

Today, however, is such a gorgeous day...85 degrees.  I think I can even smell a tiny bit of fall in the air.

The rain has been good for my little babies.  The pumpkins are progressing nicely.  It's almost time to thin them out to one plant per hill.  I'm so excited!

Looking good....

Marigolds to keep my punkins company

See that?  A pumpkin baby!

A Tiny Tendril, time to get to work on my trellis

Reminds me that it's time to get to work on the Halloween tote bags for my Etsy shop.

Have a great day!

The Little Diva Photo Shoot

What a beautiful Monday!  The sun is shining...it's not 450 degrees out...low humidity...ahhhhh.

Today, my friend Molly came over to model my new Big Kid Pack and Matching Hairbow.  We had a great time...just wanted to share.

Back to School Part 2 - Just My Size

A few days ago, my Toddler Backpack was featured on dana-made-it.com.  I was trilled to say the least.  Thanks again Dana!  My Backpacks have been very popular for just the reasons stated in Dana's blog post - little people, HUGE backpacks.

These little guys measure approximately 10 inches across and 9 1/2 tall and although they are PERFECT for a toddler up to about age 3 or so...I get so many requests for larger backpacks!

So, VOILA!

Enter the Big Kid Pack!  It's a great size for elementary school kids, tweens, teens and would even make a great purse or diaper bag for mom!  It measures 10" wide x 13" tall x 4" deep.  It's still available in all the fun fabrics that I use for the Toddler Backpack and I'm happy to shop around to find something extra special if you don't see something you love on my Etsy site.

School is starting soon and orders are backing up, so get your order in today!

Not a baker, but I make a mean Galette

You all know that I am not a baker.  Besides my super-easy cupcakes and an occasional secret family recipe for the-most-delicious-pound-cake-you've-ever-put-in-your-mouth, I don't do much baking.
So when we were invited to dinner with some great friends, what do I say?  What other than "I'll bring dessert!"

Um, what was I thinking?  Not only do I have 457,000 10 orders from my Etsy shop, I DON'T BAKE!!!!!

I scour the kitchen to see what's available.  Pears from Nana's house...check.  Brown sugar...check.  Cinnamon...check.  Butter...check.   Pie crust?  Nope!  So I send Mr. Company to the store to buy one of those refrigerated pies crusts that you roll out, fill and bake.

I remembered reading an article in Real Simple Magazine a while back about 3 ingredient dishes.  One of those was a Plum Galette.  Galette is a general term used in the French cuisine to designate various types of flat, round or freeform crusty cakes.  It can be sweet or savory.  One of the most famous galletes is the King Cake which is eaten on the Day of the Epiphany.  Or for us Southern folks...during Mardi Gras!

OK people...this thing is so easy...even I can do it!

Fruit Galette

  • First, roll out your pie crust.  I used my trusty pizza stone instead of a baking sheet.
  • Slice whatever fruit you like into thin slices.
  • Layer the fruit around the center of the pie crust leaving a 2 inch border around the edge.
  • Sprinkle some brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
  • Cut 2 T of unsalted buttter into tiny bits and arrange on top.

  • Fold your crust up around the edges.

  • Brush the crust with water and sprinkle Turbinado Sugar (Sugar in the Raw) on the edges
  • Bake at 375 deg. until the crust is brown and the juices are bubbly. (approx. 30-40 minutes)

  • EAT!

My galette got rave reviews.  And it was so easy and delicious that we made another one the very next day!  Try it - you'll love it!
